[embed]https://d2pq0u4uni88oo.cloudfront.net/projects/423963/video-194680-h264_high.mp4[/embed]

A coat hanger… Not that exciting, except this isn’t your normal coat hanger. It’s been designed specifically for plate carrier/body armor. You can use it for other heavy gear, anything that has straps. You could hang ropes up. Or even pull ups with its over 150lbs weight rating.

Much like everything that’s great, it was born out of necessity. An Army veteran came up with the idea for this because all of the alternatives weren’t cutting it. He put his product on kickstarter and raised over $17,000 of his $11,000 goal. Clearly he wasn’t the only one who thought it was a good idea.Tough-Hook-1-284x300

After talking to my friend who’s a veteran, it seems the go to for storing body armor is either in a corner on the floor or tape three coat hangers together to hang it up. On top of being over engineered with its tough I-Beam construction, it has flared ends to keep shoulder straps from falling off.

“That’s all cool but what about carrying to my car, or wherever I’m gonna move it to?” you might ask. They’ve got you covered. Instead is having to hold onto the hook with all that weight they’ve integrated a handle on the underside of the hanger. And because of that, it's usefulness doesn't end at the closet. You can use it to carry your gear to the car, range, work, or wherever you think you want it at. All you have to do is spin the hanger inside the vest and you have a nice, wide grip to carry it with. It’s just like carrying a briefcase, except it contains SAPI plates instead of documents.

The only thing I wished this had was an accessory hook. As it is, you’d just have to put your ears or gloves on your vest or in a dump pouch.

Laser Ammo - LaserPET Electronic Target

Laser Ammo - LaserPET Electronic Target This is a great way to practice at home without shooting up your house. It’s pretty simple to use and comes with instructions(who uses them?) Shooting it with the Laser Ammo Sure Strike provides instant feedback if you hit it. It has three modes, all which can be used to improve your overall shooting. Using the hit counter mode you can work on your trigger control and it keeps track of your hits. The shot timer mode is for working on your quick draw/first shot from the holster. Lastly is the magazine change mode in which, you guessed it, you practice fast mag changes. One thing I found this extremely useful for is teaching new shooters proper technique in a safe environment. I’m sure you’re as at home on the range as I am but a new shooter may be more comfortable learning to “shoot” in the safety and comfort of their own house, away from other shooters. Most of all you don’t have to worry about be shot by an overly excited person waving the gun around because “They hit the target!!!” even though I still yell if I get swept by the muzzle. The only issue I had with the timer is that I tossed it on my bed with the tripod attached and folded underneath and it broke it open like a clam shell. It was a nightmare and a half to get it back together with how the buttons fit in it. After I got it back together I threw some super glue on it and it’s been good ever since. Granted, if I had removed the tripod I probably never would have taken it apart. Hopefully you guys will learn from my mistake. laser pet Firearms Insider Reviews - 8 Key Points Claim to Fame: Improves drawing, target acquisition, and trigger squeeze.

Laser Ammo - SureStrike Ultimate LE Edition

laser ammo The SureStrike Ultimate LE Edition laser trainer is a cool package deal. In it you get a laser trainer cartridge for 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP, and a .223 laser cap. You also get pistol barrel inserts to make sure that your firearm is clear, a carrying case, and 6 reflective targets. The targets have little holes so you can hang or pin them up. The Laser caps are really easy to use, you just have to swap out one part for another to switch to a different caliber. You have to make sure you put it together right. I accidentally assembled it for .223 but left the 9mm laser cap on it. It got stuck in the chamber and after we got it out of the AR the laser trainer was stuck together. It took a lot of work and a couple vice grips to get it apart but afterwards I was able to  assemble it the right way and “shoot” the AR. Later I tried it out in a brand new M&P-15 and the bolt had a little trouble closing on it. If you racked the charging handle and released the bolt it slam into battery with a little hiccup towards the end. It’s great for trigger control and practicing using a DA/SA or DAO gun. If you have a SAO gun the laser trainer doesn't have a rim on it so that you can rack the slide without having to reinsert it. The only issues I had with it were that the .40 S&W insert and 9mm laser cap were not marked, it fit snug in the M&P-15(not the other AR), and that I messed up assembling the .223 trainer. Overall this is a great package if you have multiple caliber pistols and something in .223(we all know I mean an AR-15).

Ares Armor Gavel Ambidextrous Safety Selector

Gavel-Saftey-Selector-AresArmor-2

IMG_4456When I got the Ares Armor Gavel out of the package I realized that there were two different sized safety selectors. I also noticed the sprocket design that allows the user to mount it at an angle that is easy and comfortable for them. As long as you can take something apart and put it back together you should have no problem installing this on your own rifle. It even comes with the tool to screw it together (as it should). Once you have the shaft installed then it’s time to figure out how you want it set up. The safety selectors can be mounted in 30 degree increments and they’re swappable.

IMG_4457I liked having it mounted so that when it was disengaged, the selector was vertical. I can manipulate the small one with my dominant hand so I like to have the larger one mounted on my offside. I found it to be easier to use with my offhand. It’s also designed to be a short throw safety selector. You only have to actuate it 55 degrees instead of the regular 90. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the safety selectors were made of polymer. I’m sure that they’re strong and will last for a long time, it just takes some time to get used to. I have recommended it to everyone I know with an AR and some friends without one.

Tactical Tailor - Fight Light Plate Carrier

DCIM104GOPROThe second I opened up the package I put it on and wore it. Unfortunately I didn’t have any plates in it yet. The next day I went to my buddies house and stole the plates from his vest. Along with some of the gear he had on it so I could give this a good test. Over the next few weeks I’ve thoroughly tested this, even wearing it to the gym and doing five miles on the treadmill. Although it is heavier and warmer than not wearing it, I love this vest. It’s designed to be lighter than their other vests and lighter than most others. The inside of the vest has some nice padding to cushion your chest from the plates and allow some airflow. It has nice pockets for the plates and it comes with removable side plate carriers, when removed there’s still Molle attachments on the cumberbund.DCIM104GOPROIt’s covered in molle and has velcro on the front and back. On the front there’s an admin pouch that’s pretty big. There’s also some pouches on the side plate carrier that my friend said could be for soft armor, I used it for holding my electronics. The front and back are held together by four side release buckles. On the shoulders, they’re wrapped in elastic to cushion and protect the buckles. The ones on the cumberbund are protected by cordura that wraps around it and has molle on the inside(towards the wearer) and outside. It’s extremely quick to put on and secure. The cumberbund is comfortable but its not too adjustable. In the back it is attached with some heavy duty elastic so that it can stretch out but you can’t make it any tighter. They say to order the vest in whatever size your plates are. The communication/hydration routing loops are elastic so they can accommodate just about anything you can feed through it. The drag handle on the back is sewn about every two inches down the back and it runs the whole way down the vest. I had my brother pull me around for a bit to give it a good test and it works. It rode up a little but it wasn’t really uncomfortable and in a situation where I’m being drug I don’t think that I’ll be that worried.

Zootility Tools - Pocket Monkey

Zootility-MultiTool-2.jpg

Zootility MultiTool 1

I first saw this in a magazine a few months ago.  With a $12 price tag, this definitely isn’t an impulse buy.  They didn’t seem to have a stockpile of them but said that it would ship out on the next batch the received.  I’m not sure what there system is but it showed up pretty quickly.  It arrived on a piece of cardstock detailing all of its 12 functions.  I wasted no time testing it out.  I’ve used all of

Zootility MultiTool 2the different functions, some more than others, and found it to be quite useful and extremely convenient.  Normally I carry a mini multitool and a pocket knife but both of those could be replaced save for the pliers on the multitool.  It has features that my other things do not, such as the cell phone kickstand, hex wrenches, locked door opener, and more. This tool is extremely small, light(1oz) and durable.  Designed to slip into your wallet, it’s about the size of a credit card, just a little thicker at 1mm.  The only thing that I found to be an issue was turning bolts/nuts tightly because it was so thin, it didn’t feel the greatest.  Also, if you’re expecting the letter opener to be razor sharp you’d be wrong.  It took me a couple letters to get the hang of opening them with it as it is somewhat sharp.  Overall I would say treat yourself to it but don’t plan on buying everyone in your family one because it’ll add up fast.

Snag Mag Concealed Magazine Holster

Snag Mag 1

This is a very innovative product. It helps to conceal an extra magazine in your pocket while still keeping it easily accessible. It’s designed to look as thought you are carrying a pocket knife and not an extra magazine. The pocket clip is nice and strong but not

Snag Mag 2strong enough to hold it while you draw your magazine. However, there’s a barb that protrudes off the back of it that is meant to catch on the back corner of your pocket. I wore this with many different pants and shorts to give it a good all around test. It even worked with sweat pants and a pair of basketball short that had pockets. It would seem that as long as your pocket is big enough for a magazine, it’ll work. Even if your pocket is a little too small you could cant it a little as the pocket clip does rotate. You’re meant to carry it on your weak hand side, towards the back of your front pants pocket. You can also carry it in your Snag mag Pantswaistband if you’d prefer. Playing with it I figured out that you can also carry it towards the front of your pocket if you want. If that’s the case though you need to buy one that's meant to be carried on your firing side so that the barb will catch your pants. Loaded with a PF9 magazine and 7 rounds of self-defense ammo this holster does its job. The only complaint I have is that this one was made to hold a magazine for a Kel-tec PF9, Ruger LC9, or Beretta Nano. Since it was made specifically for the PF9 it has a little extra length to accommodate the others that is wasted space with the magazine I have. Perhaps a little time with a heat gun and a dremel could fix that. Overall it is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone. They don’t have one for every pistol though so go to their website and see if they have yours.

Out of the box, this holster was just a little too tight for my liking.  However Comp-Tac provides you with a wrench that will allow you to adjust the holster to your preference. Within a couple of minutes I was able to adjust the tension, cant and depth just the way I prefer.  Ever since the adjustment, the holster has been riding in the same exact spot.  The retention on this holster is very good, yet it allows the gun to be drawn easy enough.  I personally find this holster to be extremely comfortable and strangely enough, it seems to make the gun feel lighter.  The kydex shell is replaceable, this allows you to keep your holster and you only need to buy a new piece if you buy a new gun.  One nice thing I noticed about this holster is this, you can tuck a shirt into your pants and the only thing that is noticeable are the two clips. With some of the other offered clips available,  the gun would be even less noticeable.  Overall, I would definitely recommend this holster.

Trijicon Bright & Tough Night Sights SG03

Trijicon Night Sights

By Devin Blystone

The sights pictured above were produced in ‘04 and they still shine just as bright as the day that I purchased them.  As of today, I have not yet had the chance to do any live firing with these sights in low light conditions, but dry firing with them has been extremely helpful. Even in the pitch black you can still line your sights up on target without a problem. However shooting with them in daylight isn't anything spectacular.  I find them to be  just the same as shooting with standard sights.  The glowing effect is made possible by tritium-phosphor lamps.  If the sights get just a little bit of natural light, they will hold their glow for a while.  The Trijicon sights come in options of yellow, green, and orange.  All front sights come in green, which happens to have the longest glow. Trijicon Night Sights 2 Both the yellow and the green carry a warranty of 12 years.  The orange sights only come with a 5 year warranty. Before I made my purchase, I did some research and discovered a review that stated that the Trijicon sights lasted 19 years before they burnt out on the owner. Personally, I have never come across a complaint about Trijicon Night Sights.  With my personal experience added in, I can completely understand why. These sights are a luxury item that you don’t need, but you would find quite handy on your daily carry or your bedside gun. Unfortunately for me,  Trijicon does not offer sights out of the box for my daily carry gun.  However, if you happen to have some extra cash on hand, Trijicon recommends a specialty shop that will custom fit sights to your particular gun.  My overall opinion is that I would recommend getting these sights for any gun that you carry daily, nightly or plan on using in low light situations.

Beretta PX4 Storm Compact

Beretta-PX4.jpg

Beretta is one of the oldest gun makers in the world and I think the experience shows in this pistol. I’ve never had a FTF, FTE, or any kind of complications. Other than the things I don’t like listed below, I can’t complain. The stipling issue was easily overcome by using automotive grip tape, similar to that on skateboards. It can be found at Walmart and many hardware stores, and tutorials on how to apply it can be found on youtube. The take down and cleaning of it are easy as well. Beretta says they’ve used their experience with the M9 in sandy environments to produce a better functioning firearm. Unlike other manufacturers who crank out a new model every year they took their time to produce this masterpiece. Although it has some shortcomings, no product is perfect. It is a very reliable and accurate firearm that is great for conceal or open carry. I think this is one quality gun that I won’t be switching away from for a long time.

Our Rating + The finish is semi matte. + It’s easy to conceal carry. + It doesn’t catch on my clothing. + Fits great in my hand. + Different backstraps to fit different hand sizes. + Nice slide serrations.

- At 27.3 oz empty weight it feels a little on the heavy side. - The finish has worn off in spots because of holster wear. - The side grip stippling was lacking. 85- You have to disengage the safety, adding time until you can fire it.
